Importance of Proper Tank Maintenance

Why is tank maintenance critical?  WATER
A significant amount of water in the tank will likely cause problems including, oxidative degradation (rust, scale), particulates and microbiological growth. Microbes (bugs) cannot grow in diesel fuel alone. They require oxygen (water), carbon, and trace nitrogen for life.

Proper Tank Maintenance will limit the amount of water introduced into diesel fuel.  If we are able to limit the water in the fuel and tank then we are less likely to see fuel related equipment problems.

Storage Tank Maintenance Tips

  • Drain and remove all water and contaminants quarterly and or prior to winter season
  • All storage tanks should have fuel filters
  • Change filters and clean pump screens

New Diesel Technology

Over the past 20 years fuel systems have evolved mostly due to changes in EPA emissions requirements and the need to move to more fuel efficient engines.  The fuel injectors used on Common Rail Fuel systems are smaller with tighter tolerances than fuel injectors in the past but they are much more efficient. These injectors are designed so they can deliver fuel to the cylinder multiple times per combustion so they must be very precise.  Any deposit on or in the injector can create significant power loss and or fuel economy deficits or worst case injector failure.

Frontier Ag Inc offers a Premium Diesel Fuel with additives that will address the problems associated with ULSD fuels, new diesel technology, and fuel storage related issues.

Contact your local Frontier Ag Inc location or Petroleum Product Specialist for more information.
